Monrovia, Liberia
African Mission Healthcare partners with ELWA Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia, a country blessed with beautiful Atlantic coastlines and dense tropical rainforests. A series of immense challenges over the last several decades, including civil war and the Ebola epidemic, have negatively impacted Liberia’s economic prosperity and health outcomes.
ELWA Hospital
ELWA Hospital was founded by the mission SIM in 1965. The hospital became the center of the Ebola treatment effort during the epidemic of 2014-2016.
African Mission Healthcare began its relationship with ELWA Hospital when Ebola survivor and missionary physician Dr. Rick Sacra was awarded the African Mission Healthcare Gerson L’Chaim Prize for Outstanding Christian Medical Mission Service in 2018. Our focus has been on building capacity for family medicine training, upgrading infrastructure, and strengthening ELWA’s financial and human resources capacity.
