Combating HIV and Other Diseases

The HIV epidemic remains the leading cause of death in eastern and southern Africa, made even more devastating by the twin epidemic of tuberculosis. Death and disability due to malaria remain high as well, particularly in some of the poorest and least developed nations, like Malawi and South Sudan.

African Mission Healthcare trains health workers to treat these conditions and provides support to clinics treating the poor afflicted with infectious diseases.

Training More Workers to Care for Infectious Diseases

The widespread epidemics of infectious disease across Africa creates a staggering gap between the number of people infected and the number of doctors who have the expertise to treat them effectively. African Mission Healthcare provides direct support for clinical care and we are working diligently to raise up more healthcare workers specifically trained in caring for patients with HIV, TB and other infectious diseases.

African Mission Healthcare operates Kenya's largest hands-on clinical training program, educating thousands of nurses and doctors from across the country. At three mission hospital partners, we teach in the clinic and at the bedside how to care for patients with HIV.

Growing out of the HIV crisis, African Mission Healthcare began in 2010 with the mission of helping patients in greatest need. Our advocacy helped to launch the new Safe Births, Healthy Babies initiative within PEPFAR to ensure women receive quality maternal health care.  AMH’s thought leadership on HIV issues includes reports on preventing maternal-child transmission (Ending the Plague) and the importance of the Safe Births, Healthy Babies program (Safe & Healthy).
