Life-Changing Medical Care for the Hurting & Forgotten

Future improvements in health will come from enhanced clinical care.

Without rapid and aggressive efforts to increase the quantity and quality of healthcare in Africa, the number of people who will die or suffer from under-treatment will dramatically increase over the next several decades. Tanzania has 1 doctor for every 33,000 people, while in the United States the figure is 1 per 390; Uganda has 1 surgeon for every 136,000 people while in the United States the figure is 1 per 1,800.

Africa needs 30 times as many surgical health workers to reduce death and disability for the 56 million Africans living with a surgical condition now.

AMH pays nurses, buys supplies, and ships medicines for clinics in some of the world’s poorest and most remote places.

Expanding access to clinical care in Africa poses a tremendous challenge

At AMH we believe that mission hospitals, with decades of investments in systems, infrastructure and training, are positioned to be a strong foundation for addressing the needs, but they require our help. We support a broad range of activities to enable the much-needed quality, compassionate clinical care: sponsoring individual surgeries through our Surgical Access For Everyone (SAFE); procuring and shipping medicines and other consumables; and hiring and deploying staff to our hospital partners. With your help we can do even more.
